Hello San Diego!

Here's the lowdown of the events happening in our lovely city.

Friday (today), at Cinema Under the Stars, the recent film Three Thousand Years of Longing will be shown with a repeat screening the following evening. It's a fun place to see a film. Comedian Rex Navarette will perform at the American Comedy Company Today (Friday) and tomorrow.

Saturday, San Diego Sister Cities will host a cultural celebration that showcases 65 years of friendship with music and cultural entertainment from Japan, Ghana, Scotland, Spain, Korea, Australia, and Panama. At the Central Library, the Culinary Historians of San Diego will present From Mesopotamia to Pompeii: A Tale of 1001 Agricultural Bites featuring Barbara Baxter. At Torrey Pines Beach, Ami Admire from the Rincon Reservation in Valley Center will give a talk about the Cultural Traditions and Stories of the Luiseno People. At Civita Park the Colores de Otoño dance performance will feature favorite ballet folklórico and flamenco dance numbers. There will be a Solo Art Show featuring works by Igor Koutsenko at L'Atelier. Black Storytellers of San Diego will hold a Tellabration Storytelling at the Malcolm X Library. At UCSD there will be a screening for Transborder Film Fellowship. At the Qualcomm Q Auditorium, the film Kaval Park will be shown. Kung Fu Ghost will screen at the Museum of Photgraphic Arts in Balboa Park. At UCSD's Conrad Prebys Music Center, there will be a concert of Folk and Traditional Music of Iran. The Vienna Boys Choir will perform at Balboa Theatre.

Sunday, there will be a Pacific Rim Park Friendship Walk at Shoreline Park on Shelter Island. The Chinese Historical Society will host an online talk with Bob Stein on The Haggadah of the Kaifeng Jews of China. Warwicks will be hosting a talk with Puja Shah, author of For My Sister. Latin singer-songwriter Carin León will perform at Pechanga Arena. Regional Mexican musical group Banda MS will perform at Viejas Arena. Comedian India Yuridia will perform (in Spanish) at the Balboa Theatre. The Matsiko World Orphan Choir will perform at Christ Lutheran Church. Banda Diamantes De Tijuana will play at Juan Tequila Bar & Restaurant.

Monday, the SDSU School of Music and Dance will host Music of the Balkans with Tzidia at Smith Auditorium. At Skyline Hills Branch Library, for One Book One San Diego, there will be a discussion of this year's selection The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett.

Wednesday, Mexican singer Yurida will perform at the Magnolia in El Cajon. King Yellowman will perform at the Worldbeat Center.

Next Friday, there will be a Pakistan Flood Relief Youth Fashion & Talent Show in Balboa Park. Malaysian stand-up comedian and internet celebrity Nigel Ng will have a show at the House of Blues.

Next Saturday at the Balboa Theatre, you can watch The Sound of Music and join in the sing-along to the captioned lyrics. At the Normal Heights Community Center guitarist Juan Moro and cantaora Angelita Agujetas will present their Embracing Cante Libre program.

Next Sunday, the British rom-com Love Actually will screen atop the Manchester Grand Hyatt downtown. South Korean DJ and record producer Peggy Gou will perform at Soma. Banda los de la Empresa will play at Juan Tequila Bar & Restaurant.

Cross-cultural/international-themed theatrical offerings in San Diego include Baskerville at Lamb's Players Theatre in Coronado, Hamilton (ends Sunday) at the Civic Center, The Merry Wives of Windsor at Costa Mesa College, As You Like It at the La Jolla Playhouse and Mía at Woodbury University. To Kill a Mockingbird will open at the end of the month at the Civic Theatre.
